Different Ways To Whiten Teeth

If your teeth are dull or stained, it can affect your confidence in your smile. Why not whiten your teeth for a brighter smile and more confident you? There are many ways you can whiten teeth; read on to find out the benefits of each.

Whitening Toothpastes

Toothpastes may contain teeth whitening agents (such as hydrogen peroxide). By brushing your teeth twice daily with a whitening toothpaste, you can make your teeth whiter by about one shade. This may work if your teeth have mild discoloration, but if your teeth are yellow or dark, you won’t get the results you desire with toothpaste alone.

Whitening Strips and Gels

Whitening strips or gels fit on top of the teeth (they usually remain in place for 30 minutes) to whiten them over a period of weeks. Most people notice color changing within a few days, but it can take months of daily application to see final results. These products are effective if you use them daily as recommended; for some people, it’s simply too much.

Whitening Rinses

Whitening rinses promise brightening with as little as 60 seconds a day. The product works like a mouthwash; you put the whitening rinse in your mouth and swish it around, then spit it out. These rinses show results in around four months with consistent use; however, the results are not as strong as what you’d get from a whitening strip because of the low amount of time the rinse is in contact with teeth.

Tray Whiteners

You’ll find tray whitening solutions available for over the counter purchase, but we also offer them in our Tampa dental clinic. Tray solutions include a gel whitening solution and a tray, similar to a mouth guard. Pour the gel into the tray, then wear the tray at home for anywhere from a couple of hours to all night long, depending on the level of discoloration. People often find these more comfortable than whitening strips, since you get used to having the tray in your mouth. You might even forget it’s there!

Dental Bleaching

Dental bleaching is offered in dental offices only. Through a bleaching produce and the use of heat or laser, dental bleaching noticeably whitens your teeth in as little as 30 minutes.

Treatments are expensive compared to other methods of teeth whitening, and most people usually require several appointments. However, if you want to make a difference in the color of your teeth, this is the most effective way to get results.
